A Christmas tale 1 Snow surrounding all stretching for miles endlessly reaching into the distance, nothing
for miles no signs of life except for one house alone. The pure powder white snow fell drifting slowly onto the house as thought
they were a small model inside a an ornament found in every tourist location on the planet. A man stood his aged features
wrinkled with concern and worry it was the same every year since the job was finally handed to him and his father retired
back to the other world . Staring at them fussing about checking every detail checking double checking he waited tapping his
foot huffing checking his watch " Is every thing ready?" he demanded looking at his watch one more time
then at his craft they loaded with sack fulls of presents for those lucky enough to believe his body itched all over he
hated wearing this horrible red suite he looked down at his feet or were he though his feet where a over sized bulging stomach
overflowed he wished he could have a shave his hairy face ticked his nose , these where the rules stay fat stay bearded
the price to pay for one days work a year still he looked forward to retirement his son was nearing the age soon he would
be trained like so many before him each one passing on the mantle of responsibility for keeping it alive a tradition handed
down from the ages from the first St Nic himself over the years things changed the appearance the entrance the man behind
stayed the same a jolly joy machine. his technicians gave him the go ahead slowly he made his way to the craft he
boarded it waving good by to his wife and son .The craft seamed to defy gravity mocking it with its effortless gliding soaring
through the air like a mighty eagle, he pulled out a small remote control sized device from his pocket pointed it at the
sky beyond portal opening up a swirling hole in the middle of a snow filled sky swirling with golden light a link to the
other world he vanished within appearing soon after floating above houses silence filled the air excited children lay in
their beds trying through all their excitement to sleep occasionally peering through their bed room window hoping to get
a glimpse at that legendary craft and reindeer shiny nose and all. Time seamed to stand still he had an eternity to
finish his task he hopped gently onto a roof below loosening a bit of snow falling to the ground disappearing into the house
below quite and nimble he found what he was looking for producing brightly sparkling packages from his sack he placed under
the tree decorated with bright tinsel and baubles sparkling under the moon light he heard their frightened gaps children
too excited to sleep. Sneaking ,moving ,creeping down stairs avoiding those creaky floor boards the gapping door of their
parents when any moment any sudden noise would bring their mother or father down on them a grumpy moaning bear. 2
He turned to face them their little faces filled with terror and excitement half hiding behind a nearby door he pushed
his finger to his lips "Shush" he said winking at them friendly the stood awe struck time seamed to
stand still " Ho Ho Ho " he said with an instant he was gone disappearing with a puff of smoke. The children
stood staring at the newly arrived presents each one beautifully wrapped with the greatest of care and attention so that the
receiver could not tell what was inside the excited kids dashed for them checking the label next to the brightly tied bow
"Come on Bed you lot" A voice said from behind the sound of bells jingled across the night sky the excitedly
children dashed for the window followed by their grumpy father ,Jaws dropping even their father who long ago forgot, stopped
believing sticking to the adult drinking eating as much as you can binge that Christmas brought looked on in awe as they caught
a glimpse of the legendary craft and reindeer. He dashed from country to country cites country side alike the sun rise
chasing him as he worked delivering happiness to one and all no one left out no one unaccounted for, even the bad .He ate
their offerings of pie and sherry reluctantly pilling on more weight to his less than ample frame,Leaving them their hearts
desires through floods of mail including the new found e-mail . Once this was all over every present delivered he hopped
back into his sleigh opened a portal back to his world and was gone. The world woke to the sound happy cries of laughter
and joy glittered wrapping paper littered the floor of ever house excitedly children played with their new toys the ones
that where to expensive for there parents to afford .The parents looked on in nostalgic confusion taking credit for his work
remembering their own special child hood memories vague images of a figure every one knew who he was but that's a myth isn't
it . He smiled watching from a distance relieved his work done for another year his feet resting next to a roaring hot
fire sipping a soothing hot cup of tea his plump stomach, full of pie and sherry, hung over, his weary eyes drooping "Time
For a holiday " his wife whispered gently before he slipped into a dream
